Some great news that dramatically increases the reach of BIMI: After a successful pilot for Gmail that included several Agari customers with strong B2C brands, Google announced that the Gmail service will be rolling out BIMI support for most users over the coming weeks.
BIMI—or Brand Indicators for Message Identification—is an industry-wide standards effort to increase email security at a time when cyber theft and hacking are on the rise. BIMI builds on the DMARC standard to allow Gmail and other mailbox providers to display a brand’s verified logo to signify the sender’s domain has been authenticated. This visual cue indicates the email is from a trusted entity and is safe for recipients to open.
BIMI aligns with growing expectations to display verified logos alongside authenticated email messages and shows a sender is doing everything possible to secure the emails coming from their domain. In addition to this reinforcement of trust, email senders also benefit from increased brand impressions. Organizations that rely on B2C email communication for marketing, notifications, customer service, and more will particularly appreciate these twin benefits of customer trust and brand awareness.
BIMI builds on the existing DMARC standard for email authentication and requires strong “quarantine” or “reject” DMARC enforcement policies. Additionally, Gmail’s support for BIMI requires senders deploy a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) to further validate their identity and right to use a particular logo mark.
Agari Brand Protection, the leading DMARC solution for enterprises, has been enhanced to support this additional VMC requirement. Agari Brand Protection makes it easy for IT and security teams to host, validate, and manage everything Gmail requires to display the logo: DMARC and related records in the domain name system (DNS), the logo image, and the VMC.
Our team will be sharing more helpful content and how-to guides in the coming weeks.
